Haiti EarthquakeJanuary 13, 2010
I woke up to news of this earthquake. It measured 7.0 on the Richter scale, which would cause a fair amount of damage to any country, but in a place like Haiti, possibly the poorest area in the Western Hemisphere, it’s an absolute disaster. I think the death toll was 100 at the time that I heard about it this morning, or maybe I misheard it. Whatever, it now looks like it could reach 100,000. I’ve seen the clips on the BBC website and it’s heartbreaking.
I thought of Wyclef Jean at that moment, a Haitian national. I truly hope his family is OK. He made a statement on his website, urging people to donate. I can’t say much more on this. I will be calling my bank to see if I can make a donation by transfer. In the meantime, you can make donations with clothing, food and money if you wish. Have a look at these websites below. I’m posting UK versions here, but Wyclef has been specific about the places to donate on his site. Wherever you are, please do something. You may not be able to give anything physically, but transferring energy through good thoughts, or prayers costs nothing.
